For 1999 Acura built the NSX Alex Zanardi Edition, exclusively for the United States, to honor two successive CART IndyCar titles that Alex Zanardi won for Honda. Only 51 were made, all in Formula Red, with a fixed roof, lightweight BBS wheels, a lighter battery and manual steering, saving 149 pounds against an NSX-T. Road and Track placed it second against rivals including the Corvette and Ferrari F355 Spider.
