The S180 was released in late 2003 and was based on the Zero Crown concept. For the first time since 2001 left hand drive Crowns were available, though they were built only in China by Tianjin FAW Toyota for the Chinese market. The G-BOOK telematics service came in May 2006, and a small facelift in October 2005 gave redesigned tail lights, with smoked head and tail lights on the Crown Athlete. The wagon of the previous generation, the Crown Estate, stayed in production until June 2007.
