The Custom was the base model series of the Mercury range for the 1952 to 1956 model years, replacing the original Mercury Eight and positioned below the Monterey, which was introduced in 1952 as the upper trim. It was displaced as the entry model in 1956 by the Medalist, and both were discontinued for 1957 when Mercury was repositioned upmarket.
