1956 Mercury Custom

Automobiles

The introduction of the Mercury Medalist in 1956, which was more modestly priced than the Custom, further eroded sales of the Custom, and 1956 was the last year of the Custom. The Medalist displaced the Custom as the base model for 1956, with both series discontinued for 1957 as Mercury was repositioned as a more upscale line. The Custom was positioned below the Monterey, which was introduced in 1952 as the upper trim package.
