The second generation Mazda3, the BL series, was unveiled in late 2008, the sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the hatchback at the Bologna Motor Show. It was developed from 2004 and styled under Kunihiko Kurisu, and it kept the C1 architecture shared by Ford, Mazda and Volvo, a little wider, longer and lighter than before. The North American cars had a 2.0 liter engine and a new 2.5 liter four from the Mazda6, and for the 2012 model year the Skyactiv technology arrived. Its model years run from 2009 to 2012.
