The first Continental debuted for the 1940 model year, a personal luxury car that grew out of a 1939 prototype built for Edsel Ford. It was a coupe and cabriolet on the Lincoln-Zephyr chassis, with the push button door releases of 1941 and the squared up fenders of 1942, when production ended after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It returned as a 1946 model, derived from the standard Lincoln, and was built through 1948. Each model year has its own page.
