Chrysler had planned to drop the Imperial after 1973, but for 1974 it used the New Yorker's body panels with a distinct front end clip and trunk lid, topped by a waterfall grille designed by Chet Limbaugh, so for the first time as a separate make it shared the wheelbase of a production Chrysler. It offered four wheel disc brakes, electronic ignition and a car alarm. The last independent Imperial left the factory on June 12, 1975. Its model years run from 1974 to 1975.
