The fifth generation was a larger car moving closer to Lincoln, with body on frame construction and a radically different shape that included a wide fishmouth grille hiding the headlights. The convertible was dropped in favor of a four door model with rear hinged suicide doors. The 429 cubic inch big block V8 arrived in 1968, the Continental Mark III shared the Thunderbird chassis from 1969, and the 1970 cars gained a projecting bird beak grille. Each model year has its own page.
