For the 1970 model year the Thunderbird was updated with a large bird beak shaped projection from its grille, with prominent angular lines on the hood leading to a jutting tip. It was offered in two door and four door versions, and all 1970 and 1971 cars shared this look. Ford's new president, Bunkie Knudsen, who had come from General Motors, was in charge when the redesign took shape. The 1970 and 1971 cars shared this look.
