For 1969 the Lincoln Continental Mark III was launched as a two door only personal luxury coupe based directly on the four door Thunderbird chassis, which had a 117 inch wheelbase. From that point until the end of 1976 the Thunderbirds and the Continental Marks were related cars, and they would share engineering again from 1984 to 1998. The Thunderbird itself was still offered as a two door landau and a four door model.
