The Mk III Mondeo was launched in October 2000 and was considerably larger than its predecessor, with a New Edge design theme dropped in favour of the style of the Prodigy concept car. Its interior was a deliberate response to the Volkswagen Passat of 1996. The Zetec engine was replaced by Mazda derived Duratec units, and the old diesel gave way to a common rail Duratorq. A mild facelift came in June 2003 with new Titanium trims. Its model years run from 2000 to 2006.
