For the 1965 model year Ford introduced an all new full size range and added the 500 LTD, a luxury oriented Galaxie 500 with a plush cloth interior, woodgrain accents and contoured seats. It was designed to offer the features of more expensive cars under the lower price of the Ford nameplate. Rivals responded with the Chevrolet Caprice and the Plymouth Fury VIP. The Galaxie name was dropped from the LTD for 1966. Its model years run from 1965 to 1968.
