The fourth generation, 1969 to 1974, was built on a new platform with a 121 inch wheelbase and a 429 cubic inch ThunderJet V8 in place of the 427 and 428. It was fully redesigned for 1971, and by 1973 every full size Ford came with a 351 V8 and SelectShift automatic. The Galaxie 500 name ended with 1974, when Ford consolidated its full size line under the LTD, keeping the Custom 500 only for fleet buyers. Each model year has its own page.
