Galaxies for model year 1970 received minor trim changes, with a new ignition lock on the right of the steering column. The 1970 model year was the last for the XL, and Galaxie 500 hardtop coupes were available in both formal roof and SportsRoof body styles. The optional four speed manual transmission, which had been available with the 429 the year before, was dropped for 1970. The Galaxie remained the mid range full size Ford, slotted between the Custom and the LTD.
