The 1969 Galaxie was built on a new platform with a 121 inch wheelbase. It was the end of the 427 and 428 engines, apart from the 360 horsepower 428 Police Interceptor in the police package. They were replaced by the new 429 ThunderJet from the 1968 Thunderbird, the 360 horsepower version having dual exhaust and a four barrel carburetor. Headrests were fitted to cars built after 1 January 1969, and the wagons were renamed by trim.
