The first generation was sold from 2003 as the Focus C-Max, the first car on the new Ford C1 platform, a five seat compact MPV with flat folding rear seats and the Focus rear suspension. A facelift shown in December 2006 dropped the Focus name and adopted the Kinetic Design look. Its model years run from 2003 to 2010. The C-Max was a five door compact people carrier that Ford built on the same platform as the Focus. A longer seven seat version called the Grand C-Max sat above it in the range.
