The Monaco began as a sporty, personal luxury two door hardtop built on the Custom 880 body to rival the Pontiac Grand Prix, with bucket seats, a full length console and a standard big block V8. After a single year it became the broader luxury line of full size Dodges, while the former Monaco turned into the Monaco 500. The sheet metal was entirely new for 1967 under chief designer Elwood Engel. Its model years run from 1965 to 1968.
