The second Coronet was totally redesigned for 1953 with a one piece windshield and standard electric wipers, and it gained an optional 241 cubic inch Red Ram Hemi engine that set more than a hundred land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Dodge Royal line was added above the Coronet in 1954 as Dodge moved toward luxury, and 1954 also brought Chrysler's first fully automatic transmission, the two speed PowerFlite, as an extra cost option. Its model years run from 1953 to 1954.
