The Dodge Royal line was added above the Coronet in 1954 as Dodge put more luxury into all of its models, though the styling changes for 1954 were modest. The year saw Chrysler's first fully automatic transmission, the two speed PowerFlite, offered as an extra cost option on all Dodges. Chrysler's two speed PowerFlite automatic could be added to all Dodges, and the Royal, Coronet and Meadowbrook lines were the three Dodge series, with modest styling changes and a wider chrome molding on the hood lip.
