The first Camaro went on sale on September 29, 1966 as a 1967 model, built to compete with the Ford Mustang. It used the new rear wheel drive F body platform shared with the Pontiac Firebird, came as a hardtop or convertible with a 2+2 layout, and had a standard 230 cubic inch six with Chevrolet V8s as options. The SS, the Z/28 and the Rally Sport options appeared in these years. Its model years run from 1967 to 1969.
