A new Regal appeared in October 1987 on the General Motors W platform as the first vehicle on that platform, and this generation ran with few changes for nine years. Neither a V8 engine nor a turbocharged V6 was offered. From mid 1990 a four door sedan was re introduced, but its sales were delayed until the 1991 model year. Its model years run from 1988 to 1996. It was a front wheel drive car, with the sedan returning for the 1991 model year.
