In August 2026 the GR86 received minor updates such as a new EyeSight triple camera replacing the two camera setup, and the updated GR86 went on sale on 28 August 2026. The Solid Gray, previously available in the first generation 86, was reintroduced. The BRZ, as its twin, continues as the Subaru version of the shared rear wheel drive sports car. The Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ were inspired by Toyota's earlier AE86, a small, light, front engine and rear drive Corolla variant popular for racing and drifting.
