In 2023 the CX-8 got a mild facelift in New Zealand in February and a facelifted range in Australia in May. In October 2023 Mazda announced that Japanese production would end at the end of the year, and in December 2023 Mazda ended production in Japan. The Mazda CX-80 was set to replace it, and about 25,000 had been sold in Australia since mid 2018. The CX-8 is a three-row version of the CX-5. The CX-8 was Mazda's flagship SUV in Japan, as the larger, export-only CX-9 is not sold in the country.
