In January 2022 the CX-8 range in Australia was simplified, with more petrol variants and the front wheel drive diesel dropped, as more than 70 percent of customers chose the petrol engine. In November 2022 Mazda refreshed the Japanese CX-8 with the Grand Journey and Sports Appearance packages, and in June 2022 the Malaysian trims were revised. Outside of Japan, the CX-8 is available in China, Oceania, and Southeast Asia.
