The revised Outback was premiered at the New York International Auto Show on 17 April 2019 and went on sale at United States dealerships starting in the third quarter of 2019 for the 2020 model year. The 2019 Outback was the last model year of the fifth generation, in which it had become a free standing model line. Elsewhere the Outback became a free standing model line of its own, independent of the Legacy. Most versions of the Outback wagon have had all wheel drive as standard equipment.
