The facelifted Mazda3 reached North America as a 2017 model, and in the United States the i and s names were dropped, leaving Sport with the 2.0 liter engine and Touring and Grand Touring with the 2.5 liter. In April 2017 the facelift version was launched in Malaysia as the Sedan GL, Sedan High and Hatchback. On 17 November 2017 an early design prototype of the next hatchback was revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show, sculpted in clay during the event.
