In 2013 the S-Max was a seven seat family car with a Fold Flat System that put the second and third row seats flat into the floor. A high performance version of it had been reviewed on Top Gear against the Vauxhall Zafira and the Mercedes B200, and was judged the most comfortable and practical. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
