Ford said around sixty percent of S-Max buyers in 2009 picked the Titanium specification, the top English market trim above the Edge and Zetec. Continental European trims were Trend, Titanium and the top Titanium S. The second row had three individual seats, all with ISOFIX attachment points. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
