In March 2008 a 2.2 litre 175 PS TDCi common rail diesel joined the Titanium series, taking the S-Max to 62 miles per hour in 9.0 seconds, and in September 2008 the popular 2.0 litre 140 PS TDCi manual was offered with carbon dioxide emissions of 159 grams per kilometre. The S-Max was a Ford designed mid size people carrier that shared parts with the Galaxy and the Mondeo, and it was sold only in Europe. Ford marketed it both as a multi purpose vehicle and as a sports activity vehicle, aimed at buyers who wanted space without giving up driving fun.
