For the 2006 model year Subaru gave the SG Forester a facelift, with redesigned headlights, tail lights, hood, grille, front bumper and side mouldings. In 2006 the active valve lift system was added to non turbo engines, the XS model was deleted and the Premium model was added. The turbocharged engine in the Forester XT was awarded International Engine of the Year in 2006. The Sportshift mode was added to the four speed automatic transmission.
