Introduced in 2003, the Chevrolet Forester was the first Chevrolet badged model released in India, as previous General Motors models there were badged as Opels. For 2003 and later a problem with an earlier engine part was addressed with a revised, higher performing design, though it remained an issue. The Forester STI shared the STI's better breathing manifold. The Sportshift mode was added to the four speed automatic transmission.
