The second generation Forester, the SG, arrived for 2002 with a facelifted body style carried over in design from the 2001 car, and the 2001 and 2002 GT specification had changes in engine management that raised the power output from 125 to 130 kilowatts. The SG was larger than the first generation Forester and began a series of model years that would run to 2007. The X and XS models used a 2.5 liter SOHC EJ253 engine, while the XT used a 2.5 liter turbocharged DOHC engine.
