The Laser outlived its Australian run by a few months in New Zealand, continuing until mid 2003 when the facelifted Focus replaced it. It had been a long lived small car, a Japanese design fitted with Ford badges and sold across Asia, Oceania and parts of the Americas for over twenty years. Buyers in Australia and New Zealand often did not realise the Ford was based on the Mazda 323. The Laser was a Ford badged version of the Mazda Familia, and it was one of the smaller cars in the Ford range of that period.
