The three door Explorer Sport from the second generation continued production through the 2003 model year, its last. Lincoln offered its first version of the Explorer, the Lincoln Aviator, from 2003 until 2005, while Mercury introduced a second generation of the Mountaineer. The Ford Explorer itself was the five door SUV on a purpose built platform. Production ran at Louisville and St. Louis. The three door body was the last of the old generation.
