The second Viper, called the SR II, was introduced in 1996. The exposed side exhaust pipes on the RT/10 roadster were relocated to a single muffler at the rear, exiting through two large central tailpipes, in the middle of the model year, which reduced back pressure and raised power. Later in the 1996 model year Dodge introduced the Viper GTS, a coupe version dubbed the double bubble for its roof, which had raised sections to fit helmets and took design cues from the Shelby Daytona.
