The Vivio Bistro was introduced in November 1995 as a retro themed version with front and rear fascias in the style of the Mini, matching upholstery and revisions to the dashboard. It became a hit. Retro styled cars were popular in Japan in the 1990s, following the success of Nissan's Pao and Figaro, and Subaru tried a similar approach on the Impreza. The name Vivio refers to the engine's displacement of 660 written in an approximation of Roman numerals.
