The 1996 model of the Eterna went on sale in October 1995, with the MIVEC MD Visage R dropped and the Visage Touring added, which was in practice only a name change since it changed only part of the exterior and the shape of the steering wheel. A driver side airbag became standard on some grades. The Eterna of 1995 was in its fourth year as the fifth generation, a four door sedan. The Proton Perdana of Malaysia was an OEM version of the fifth generation Eterna.
