Some 3.0 liter 1994 Sables began receiving the new AX4N transmission. The Sable, a mid size four door sedan and five door wagon, continued as the Mercury counterpart of the Ford Taurus in its second generation. A passenger side airbag was standard since 1993, and the wagon could seat eight with the bench seat and rear folding seat, the only eight passenger vehicle of Lincoln Mercury. The wagon was the sole eight passenger vehicle offered by Lincoln Mercury, with the front bench seat and rear folding seat.
