In 1993 the 2L-TE turbocharged diesel engine of the Prado was replaced by the 3.0 liter 1KZ-TE turbocharged diesel engine with an aluminium cylinder head. The Prado was still largely based on the heavy duty J70. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (first generation, J70 Prado), 1990 to 1995, and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (second generation, J90) came next, following the 1992 model year.
