The KH Laser of 1993 was one of the last built in Australia, where production was due to stop the next year, while in New Zealand it carried on at Ford's assembly plant in Wiri, Auckland, until the end of 1996. It remained the most popular generation in Japan. Buyers in Australia and New Zealand often did not realise the Ford was based on the Mazda 323. The Laser was a Ford badged version of the Mazda Familia, and it was one of the smaller cars in the Ford range of that period.
