In 1991 a new range topping vehicle was introduced, the Scorpio 24 valve, with a 2.9 liter Cologne engine that had been extensively reworked by Cosworth Engineering with quad camshafts and 24 valves, enough for 200 horsepower. It sat above the 2.0 liter fuel injected Pinto and the 2.9 liter V6 in a Granada range that was still the British and Irish version of the Scorpio, and it showed Ford's sporty ambition for the model.
