The VE6 Transit of 1988 continued as the second generation with its one box body. Ford had changed the front suspension for the new van, and engines were carried over largely unchanged from the 1978 to 1985 facelift model until the 3.0 liter Essex V6 was replaced by the Cologne 2.9 liter V6 in 1989. The Transit remained Europe's best selling van, built in the UK and Belgium. The one box bodyshell was new in January 1986.
