The 6.9 litre International Harvester diesel V8 of the Econoline was enlarged in 1988 to 7.3 litres, giving the van a bigger diesel option. It was a body on frame van built at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, which produced the E Series from 1975, and at Lorain, Ohio. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
