The Econoline was introduced as a replacement for the Ford F Series panel van, and by 1987 the line was in its third generation. It was a full size van that was sold in retail and commercial markets, in cargo, passenger and cutaway forms, with a diesel option. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis.
