The column shifted three speed manual transmission departed after 1986, which left the floor shifted four speed overdrive manual as the standard gearbox. The Econoline of 1986 was a body on frame van sold as cargo and passenger versions, and a cutaway chassis. The E Series was Ford's full size van, sold as the Econoline and Club Wagon and as a cutaway chassis. It was the best selling full size van in the United States from 1980 until the Transit replaced the vans in 2014.
