In January 1987 the Avante Lordly variant was released, and in September 1987 new versions of the 2L and 2L-T diesel engines complying with the 1986 car emissions standards were introduced for the Chaser. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Chaser (third generation, X70), 1984 to 1987, and the Toyota Chaser (fourth generation, X80) came next, following the 1986 model year.
