Taunus models from 1970 onwards were manufactured using the same basic construction as the Cortina Mk III in the United Kingdom, and in 1987 the Taunus was made only in Turkey, as the Otosan Taunus. It was a basic family sedan on a rear drive chassis from the 1970s. It was named after the Taunus mountain range in Germany and was often a close relative of a British Ford. The Taunus was the family car of Ford Germany, sold under the 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M and 26M names over several generations.
