1984 Ford Telstar

Automobiles

In 1984 the Telstar was assembled locally in New Zealand, taking over from the Cortina range, at the original Seaview plant and later at the joint venture plant in Wiri. In Australia it had a single 2.0 litre carburettor engine, which Ford made at its Norlane factory in Geelong from late 1983. The Telstar was a Mazda 626 with Ford badges and some local styling, sold where Ford wanted a mid size car. Ford later replaced it in most markets with the Mondeo, which was developed as a world car.
