The Kijang started selling very strongly in 1983 and 1984, catching up to erstwhile market leaders such as the Suzuki Super Carry and the Daihatsu Hijet. Production of the second generation in South Africa had commenced in 1982. It was model year 2 of 3 in the Toyota Kijang (second generation, F20 and F30), 1981 to 1985, coming after the 1982 model year and before the 1984 model year.
