For the 1983 model year the LTD and LTD Crown Victoria split into distinct product lines, the latter becoming the full size Ford sedan and the LTD nameplate effectively replacing the Granada in a mid cycle revision, with the Mercury Marquis as its counterpart. The new LTD shed nearly 13 inches of length and 9 inches of wheelbase, with a slanted nose and drag coefficient of 0.38. It offered a 2.3 liter four, a 3.3 liter six and a 3.8 liter V6.
